In many remote communities in developing countries, medical and dental services are often not available. Even if people could travel to a town where these services are available, they are rarely affordable for the average person.
When the local church sees a need and has Christ followers who have the desire to learn, a short-term mission team could train them in a skill to specifically meet that need. By expanding their skills, the local church members will have more opportunities to share the Gospel with their own people.
Umal is a medical clinician from Uganda who has been trained to do dental extractions. After attending several dental trainings, he also began to assist the training dentists to train new trainees. Currently, Umal is in dental school to enhance his skills to care for the needs of his people.
