The following is a ministry report from Kim Smith withWordsower Liberia, an ITEC partner in West Africa.

On June 13, a team from ITEC left the USA to come serve us on our base in Zwedru, Liberia.  They returned home on June 24, leaving an impact that will remain in Liberia for a long time. Jonathan, Amy, Jason, and Dan, came to share and teach their professional skills to our Liberian Wordsower leaders so they can meet physical needs and show the love of Christ as they evangelize and disciple.

The Training

Jonathan and Amy taught dental extractions to three teams of two. One team was already trained and received advanced dental training; the other two teams were trained to extract teeth. In Liberia, there are no dentists outside of the capital, Monrovia, leaving over 3 million without practical access when teeth need to be removed.  This training will have a huge impact in Liberia.

Jason taught optical. People do not have access to eyeglasses here.  Jason taught two teams of two. The teams were trained to diagnose basic eyesight problems. They can provide four levels of reading glasses and four levels of distance glasses.  The kits that were provided include the evaluation equipment and a large assortment of glasses.

Dan taught how to do video production.  He brought the equipment and trained four teams of two. The verse in Revelation’s 12:11, comes to mind: “They overcame him [Satan] by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.” We overcome Satan by these three weapons: 1. The blood of the lamb which is our Salvation and the power of His name; 2. Our testimony and witness that we proclaim to the unsaved world and to encourage His Church; 3. The sacrifice of ourselves for a cause greater than ourselves, the lost and His Church. We will use conversion testimonies of those who were child soldiers, genocidal rebel generals, and animistic spiritual leaders before we show the Jesus Film in villages, and to share with our team of supporters.

God Uses Ordinary People for His Purposes

What is exciting is that this team of four ordinary North American Christians have greatly sacrificed their lives, in active faith, for the lost and the strengthening of our Lord’s Church.  They are using their skills, in sacrificial obedience, for the purposes of our Lord. I pray this will encourage us all to follow their example. You possess, as they do, skills, possessions, and money that will assist us here to reach the unreached tribes of West Africa. Do not exclude or overlook yourself, follow the command of our Lord to reach the world. In unity, our Lord will multiply the fruit of our efforts.

One of the ITEC team left this prayer of confession below.  May we also make it our prayer of confession:

Disturb us Lord,
when we are too pleased with ourselves,
when our dreams have come true because we have dreamed too little,
when we arrive safely because we sailed to close to the shore.

Disturb us, Lord,
when with the abundance of things we possess,
we have lost our thirst for the Waters of Life, having fallen
in love with life, we have ceased to dream of eternity, and in
our efforts to build a new earth,
we have allowed our vision of the new heaven to dim.

Disturb us, Lord,
to dare more boldly, to venture on wider seas, where
storms will show Your mastery, where losing sight of land,
we shall find the stars.  We ask You to push back the
horizon of our hopes, and to push us into the future in
strength, courage, hope, and love.  This we ask in the name
of our Captain, who is Jesus Christ.
