Lives Hang in the Balance

Newborn baby held in arms of mother

Psalm 139:13-16 says, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”

Life is so precious. It’s easy to see this when holding a newborn baby, when someone passes away, or when we’re laughing so hard with friends that we’re brought to tears. Sometimes it’s hard to see the beauty in the mundane, but every day we put our feet on the floor, and every breath we take, is a testament to the preciousness of life and God’s infinite grace.

It doesn’t take long to read evidence of God’s love for his creation in the Bible. Genesis 1:27 says, ”So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” Because of this passage and a multitude of others (Jeremiah 1:5, Psalm 127:3, Psalm 22:10-11), we feel a strong obligation to advocate for the sanctity of life and care for the unborn. Even though ITEC’s main focus is on training and equipping indigenous Christ-followers, we also feel strongly about giving our time and God-given talents to other organizations.

Trapped Update

In 2015 the ITEC Media team worked closely with our local crisis pregnancy center to develop Trapped: A Short Film for Teen Unplanned Pregnancy. This dramatic film follows a young girl through an unplanned pregnancy and the overwhelming choices and circumstances that come with it. We wanted to update you on the amazing way God is using this film to reach out to women and families in similar situations.

Last year a pro-abortion film with a similar title was released. In an effort to encourage the audience of that film to make a life-affirming choice, we released our short film on YouTube. Brian Reed, the director of our film, said, “If one person who was looking for the other film changes their mind, we thought that would be a success.”

Today, we can confidently say that God worked through this video to impact not one or two people, but almost 1.8 million. Feedback and increasing view counts for this film have floored the entire ITEC team. God has worked in a mighty way and has placed this video into the hands of crisis pregnancy centers worldwide. It is also playing in the homes of families and teenage girls in similar situations. We even released Trapped in Spanish several months back, and it has been viewed almost 50,000 times!

In addition to the growing views, some influential pastors and organizations have commented on the film. The National Right to Life and Texas Right to Life published articles with favorable reviews. Recently, pastor and author Randy Alcorn published a blog about Trapped and said, “I appreciated that the boyfriend didn’t have a change of heart, because often they don’t. But to show the dad in the photos beaming with his grandchild was precious, because when they see their grandchildren, most parents do have a change in heart. So, the filmmakers give hope, but they don’t make it a fairytale.” He then encourages readers to share the video!

This is Not About ITEC

This video is not about ITEC and this article is not about celebrating the success of something we’ve done. It’s humbling to acknowledge that God has been in the driver’s seat of this whole journey. God’s word, not political rhetoric, gives Christ-followers their commands to protect unborn life. We know that God works through unlikely circumstances and messengers, like a pro-abortion film with the same name and a similar release date. We also know that anything is possible in Christ Jesus, like the transformation of a person’s mind through a film which celebrates life.

The issue of abortion is not a political issue; it’s an issue of the heart and of love. That is what Trapped is about, and that is what local pro-life pregnancy centers around the world understand. Change starts in the heart; change starts with transformation through Christ Jesus. We hope this film will save babies, but we also hope and pray that this film can point people to Christ, who chose life for us by giving his own life to conquer sin and death.

Please join us in sharing this film and praying for countless lives to be saved, both physically and eternally. And may Christ get all the Glory!

I agree with every word! Life is so precious. Jesus came that we would have life and life more abundantly. I have passed this on to our local pregnancy center here.
