61 years ago this January, Nate Saint and his 4 friends were martyred in Ecuador (January 8, 1956).
The BBC interviewed Steve Saint and Valerie Shepard (Jim Elliot’s daughter) and put together an audio podcast where they share recollections.
“People started congregating at our house. Still, I didn’t know what was happening until mom called me into the house, and that’s when she told me that my dad was never going to come back again. And that was absolutely devastating, I just couldn’t understand why… I couldn’t imagine what life would be like without my dad.” -Steve Saint
It is humbling to see God continuing to work through this story that happened more than 60 years ago. Steve shares later in the podcast how he would have obviously preferred that his dad not had to die, but God has used those events to essentially save the Waodani from extinction and with many now following Christ.
