The I-TEC "FLYER" - August 2007

August has seen a lot of action. We assembled and shipped nine Portable Dental Systems for two dental training trips (Uganda and Kenya) leaving September 4th.

MISSION AIRPLANES

With the assistance of our two summer interns (Jonathan & Eric), Steve, Gene, and Troy were able to complete the design of the flying car’s mast system. After successfully completing pre-flight tests, Steve began calling it the Maverick.

We modified the mast system to fit on Troy’s powered parachute chassis (above), and flew successful flight tests. The mast system proved to be very stable, even though Troy’s chassis has only three wheels and is lighter than the Maverick will be. The single mast system is made with a fiberglass composite. This makes it light, strong, and flexible.

Above, Steve is sewing the nylon casing for the cross beam. Steve, Troy, and Jesse left this morning (8-30-07) for Newton, Kansas (where the Maverick’s body is being developed). There, they will check the installation of our mast prototype onto the Maverick’s chassis.

COMING ON BOARD

We welcome Ron Lytle back to our staff.

Ron is working as our office coordinator. Previously, Ron had been on staff at I-Tec for about nine months, and is back with us to help out. He hasn’t made a permanent commitment at this time, but is praying for God’s direction. You can reach Ron directly at ron@itecusa.org.

THE MINISTRY

I (Mark Stringer) will still assist some in the front office, but will get to spend more time with the dental program. I will also continue to write the monthly Flier. On that note: last month, several people asked about the Jan 2006 dates on a few of the newsletter photographs. The pictures were shot last month, but my camera defaults back to Jan’06 when I change batteries or memory card. I’ll try to be more careful.

I-Tec’s two summer student interns, Jonathan Nelson and Eric Fuchs have both gone back to their perspective schools to continue their university educations. They were knowledgeable and helped immensely.

The staffing addition made it necessary for us to rearrange the I-Tec office. Now, there is enough room for all of us, our work area is streamlined, and we even have more lobby space for visitors.
